The Geotechnical Engineering Department Manager will serve as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, will be the manager of the greater Austin geotechnical engineering
service department, and be the senior seller-doer for this service line in the greater Austin region. The Geotechnical Engineering Department Manager's responsibilities encompass all the activities required to grow and effectively conduct Raba Kistner, Inc.
(RKI) geotechnical engineering business in the greater Austin region. These responsibilities include developing new and enhancing existing relationships with clients and influencers, building and managing an effective Geotechnical Engineering Team, preparing scopes of work and proposals, developing project plans, conducting and overseeing the Austin region geotechnical engineering services and acting as the project manager for geotechnical
projects performed by the office. The Geotechnical Engineering Department Manager will have the profit and loss (P&L) responsibilities for the geotechnical business in the greater Austin region.
Other Responsibilities include: Serve as Senior Geotechnical Engineer on all geotechnical engineering projects to ensure reports are technically correct and budgets and schedules are met. Serve as Project Manager for all projects. Direct and supervise field-logging activities if engineering supervision is required during drilling operations. Coordinate drilling activities with subcontractors and RKCI's field staff. Oversee classification of soil samples in the laboratory.
Oversee laboratory-testing assignments on projects in accordance with the testing program established in the proposal. Analyze field data, laboratory results and perform calculations necessary for completion of engineering reports. Coordinate preparation of geotechnical engineering reports for review and determine quality of final reports. Has sole responsibility to coordinate, as required, with other divisions or consultants for project support. Monitor product quality, design and technology to ensure consistency with contractual agreements. Provide mentorship and professional development to other professional, technical clerical and support staff employees.
Conduct performance reviews of staff employees. Conduct salary reviews of staff employees. Determine to whom, why, and amount of discretionary bonuses are to be distributed in the Engineering Department. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's of Science Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) from an ABET accredited school and 15 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience or Master's Degree with a minimum of 10 years appropriate geotechnical engineering experience required. Must have a Professional Engineer's (P.
E. ) License for the State of Texas or if licensed in another state have the ability to obtain Texas license within 3 months. Good oral and written communications skills and ability to work in teams at different levels within the organization. Intermediate to advance in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook). Must be self-motivated with good attendance record and be able to work independently. Management skills to supervise project teams as well as monitor and evaluate progress of projects. Must have experience with: Expansive soil and heave prediction.
Drilled pier foundations and over-consolidated clays. Global stability analyses and evaluations. Coastal projects, particularly port and harbor projects including bulkheads, dolphins and relieving platforms. Geotechnical aspects of growth faults. Pavement section design. Large breadth of projects ranging from small single story structures to mid to high-rise level construction. Horizontal Civil Works projects including pipeline and transportation projects.
