Objective: Assist the Welding Engineering Manager in key projects and in daily leadership of the business unit, interface with the business unit team to improve process quality and productivity capabilities of the welding processes, and implement lean manufacturing initiatives in an exemplary manner according

to company policies. Qualified candidates will possess the following Minimum Requirements: Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (emphasis in welding) Experience in a manufacturing environment including such experiences as: launching new product, sourcing weld fixtures, standardized work, continuous improvement efforts Exposure to the APQP process, statistical process analysis, ensuring process produces consistent weldments Experience with AIAG Core Tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, and MSA) Machine build project management, quoting machine and labor capacities for possible new jobs Develop poka yoke sensors and devices to prevent or detect defects Qualified candidates

Be a part of daily production meetings, weekly new products meetings, weekly 8D meetings, and perform problem solving for typical daily challenges, including making and implementing key decisions for those challenges. Report status of all activities to the Welding Engineering Manager.

Attend daily department meetings and remain informed about the business goals and objectives. Communicate thoughts and ideas for the business unit goals, problems, and opportunities for improvement to the Welding Engineering Manager. Communicate with Team Leaders, Lead persons, and Operators during the conception, approval, build, implementation, and follow-up phases of engineering projects that impact their job functions. Document and maintain welding parameters on the Welding Procedure Specification. Analyze and determine proper weld sequence for cycle time and part dimensional improvements to reduce cycle time and ensure part consistency.

Read and interpret GD&T, welding codes/specifications stated on part prints to ensure quality of parts. Complete weld cross sectioning by cutting, polishing and etching samples as necessary. Manual weld as needed to support production. Create/maintain weld fixture/machine standards with the design and machine build group. Analyze gage and CMM data to adjust weld fixture details to produce parts that meet dimensional requirements. Provide assistance in the design, build, installation, and startup of weld cells/fixtures, size machine/tools, leak test machine/tools, and all auxiliary equipment.

Assist in departmental measurable goals relating to customer concerns, cost of quality, cost savings, safety and on-time PPAP's. Maintain weld equipment and processes to OSHA, MIOSHA, and Pridgeon and Clay standards. Participate in 8D and 5-why problem solving teams. Understand and setup perishable requirements for welding equipment and fixtures Programming: Create and modify complex Fanuc robotic welding programs while consistently maintaining the essential welding parameters. Change as necessary the weld data, torch angles, electrical extension, starting techniques, and other robotic/welding variables Create and modify programs for Fronius and Lincoln welding equipment to produce welds that meet the customer's code/specification stated on the print.

Create and modify programs for resistance welding equipment to produce welds that meet the customer's code/specification stated on the print. Create and modify programs for laser welding equipment to produce welds that meet the customer's code/specification stated on the print. Create and modify programs for endforming equipment/tooling to produce parts that meet gage or CMM requirements.

Create and modify programs for leak testing equipment/tooling to produce parts that meet the required leak rates. Continuous Improvement: Participate in lean initiatives such as continuous improvement events, and identity and elimination of all types of waste. Complete/modify preventative maintenance per the instructions on weld fixture, weld cells, and auxiliary equipment. Provide suggestions to continuously improve the preventative maintenance schedules. Apply troubleshooting knowledge to improve processes and equipment with the goal of achieving permanent fixes.

Assist the Process Engineer in data collection for continuous improvement activities. Complete equipment changeovers according to the changeover instructions for weld fixtures, size tools, leak test tools, poke yokes, and all auxiliary equipment. Provide assistance to error proofing processes through 8D problem solving. Leadership and Mentoring: Lead the weld technicians knowing their strengths and weaknesses; working with Human Resources to determine their needs for training and development. Perform functions of a team leader for the weld technicians. Assist and train operators and welders in determining weld quality using calipers, visual inspection, and destruct tests.

Oversee the welding department in the Team Leader's absence. Provide leadership and technical support for 5S and lean objectives. Organization/Communication/Professionalism: Effectively communicate with co-workers and management personnel to enhance teamwork and communication initiatives. Provide necessary, accurate, and timely feedback of all pertinent information to co-workers and management. Consistently exhibit appropriate attendance habits, working the hours necessary to perform the job.

3. Must sign a release of records authorizing all previous railroad employers to provide Amtrak with background information, if applicable. Individuals currently certified as Class 1 Train Service Engineers are paid at the rate determined by the agreement schedule. Incumbents are subject to periodic medical examinations including random drug and alcohol screenings.

Amtrak's pre-employment drug testing program is administered in accordance with DOT regulations and applicable law. If an applicant/employee refuses to provide written consent for Amtrak to obtain these records, the individual will not be permitted to perform safety-sensitive functions. In accordance with federal law governing security checks of covered individuals for providers of public transportation (Title 6 U.

S. C. § 1143), Amtrak is required to screen applicants for any permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses.
