This includes, but is not limited to, all policies in accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), Texas Family Code, Bell County Employee Handbook, and Bell County Juvenile Services policies and procedures. Responsible for all respective personnel, programs, and processes of the assigned area and function. Provide daily guidance and evaluation of all staff, interns and/or volunteers under his/her supervision. Always
maintain his/her appearance and appropriate professional behavior. Address behavioral issues/concerns to ensure compliance, to include assisting staff during any situation that requires the use of Handle with Care and the department approved behavior management system.
Monitors and evaluates employees, interns, and/or volunteers under his/her supervision. Conducts monthly case staffing meetings with each officer under his/her supervision. Responsible for ensuring case management functions are completed. Approves all recommendations given to the court to ensure recommendations are appropriate and timely. Conducts random monthly internal audits of 20% of active cases to ensure continuity
of service, policy and legal compliance, and necessary documentation.
Assigns all caseload duties and/or transportation duties to probation officers under his/her supervision (as needed) and ensures compliance with the Texas Family Code and departmental policies and procedures. Serves as a community liaison person with public, private or support services related to juveniles and their families. Responsible for being aware of any changes in laws and/or codes pertaining to juveniles and their families in order to disseminate information to his/her staff. Participates in case staffings, placement reviews, and MDTs, as appropriate. Authorizes detention for violations.
Fulfills duties related to the on-call rotation. Authorizes training hours. Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the Department Chain of Command. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Master's degree preferred but not required. Must have bachelor's degree conferred by a college or university accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by Coordinating Board, Texas College, and University system; and Must have either One year of graduate study in criminology, corrections, counseling in social work, psychology, sociology, or related field that has been approved by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, or One-year experience in full-time casework or counseling in a social service, community correctional or juvenile agency that deals with offenders or disadvantaged persons.
Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and proof of adequate liability insurance. Must have a personal vehicle that is dependable for day-to-day transportation. Must possess physical stamina to handle potential physical outbursts of violent youth and be able to restrain a youth who is resisting. Must have the ability to work with a diverse population. Must be of good moral character.
No staff member may possess, while on duty, any firearm, illegal weapons, or chemical agents. Other Qualifications: Regular attendance is essential.
