The Organization: The National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) provides pioneering computational and data science infrastructure for technical and scientific professionals to accelerate scientific discovery and engineering advances across a broad range of subject areas. As an important part of the broader High-Performance

Computing (HPC) infrastructure, the division also hosts the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF), a Department of Energy Office of Science User Facility.

The Team: The System Acceptance and User Environment Group is within the Operations Section of the NCCS and ensures the functionality, performance, and usability of new NCCS systems through activities such as test development, acceptance, software installation, documentation, and early user support for all NCCS pre-production systems. Major Duties/Responsibilities: The role comprises the following focus: Take technical ownership of user reported problems and provide hands-on support for scientific applications and libraries

and users of high performance computing systems and clusters.

Compile and debug large science and engineering applications. Identify and resolve system-level bugs in conjunction with other technical staff. Work with vendors to resolve issues and implement changes as necessary. Install third-party software applications and tools and provide documentation for usage. Develop and implement system tests to ensure newly deployed systems can support user workloads. Proactively ensure that users have up-to-date information about the system, including any changes and their impact on the users. HPC User Support staff are very involved in researching and developing documentation and reference material during system early-use and upgrade phases, as well as maintaining them throughout system operation.

Participate in the development, maintenance, and delivery of training and outreach materials to users. Respond to general administrative questions (e. g. system status, requests for accessor special accommodation). Implement special projects as requested (e. g. metrics, cyber security, policy discussions, automated monitoring). Basic Qualifications: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of related experience, an MS and 4+ years of related experience or a Ph. D. Degree area should be in Computer Science or a related field. Experience working technologies including more than one of the following: Fortran C C++ Perl Python Shell scripting (e. g. bash, ksh) in a Linux or Unix environment In addition, prior experience working with parallel programming technologies including at least one of the following: MPI Open MP Open ACC CUDA HIP Kokkos RAJA Preferred Qualifications: Experience building and installing scientific software and other 3rd party software applications on HPC systems Experience with HPC schedulers and resource managers Experience implementing scientific software on HPC systems Experience developing and completing tests on HPC systems Experience developing scientific software on GPU-based HPC systems Experience with container technologies (e.

Position Summary This position is for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who will work on various projects as part of the NS&E execution center team. The projects that will be assigned

Responsibilities Coordinate within the mechanical group and other disciplines/functions independently in developing system designs and equipment identification in a team environment. Resolve technical issues related to the discipline independently including any required interface with other disciplines, functions, vendors, and/or client. Originate and/or revise Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), calculations, data sheets, material requisitions, and specifications. Execute schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work products.

Support development of project cost and schedule estimates. Qualifications and Skills Basic Qualifications: Level One - BS degree in Mechanical (or related) Engineering from an accredited university or college with six (6) years of progressive related experience, or in lieu of degree, twelve (12) years of progressive related experience. Level Two - BS degree in Mechanical (or related) Engineering from an accredited university or college with nine (9) years of progressive related experience, or in lieu of degree, fifteen (15) years of progressive related experience. Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
