Summary: Under the direction of the Mathematics Department Chair, the Educator will be

responsible for the delivery of an excellent program of secondary school instruction, including participation in the creation of the curriculum, teaching up to five (5) courses each term, and participating in the life of the Geffen Academy in a robust and fully engaged manner.

This is a bargaining unit covered position. Geffen Academy seeks a Mathematics teacher able to teach a variety of math courses for students in grades 6-12. The curriculum is based on the traditional textbooks as well as on the Ao PS (Art of Problem Solving) textbooks, such as Introduction to Geometry, Intermediate Algebra, Intermediate Counting and Probability. Calculus and some other advanced courses at the Geffen

will closely resemble the corresponding courses given at the UCLA Department of Mathematics.

A successful candidate should either be familiar with the above content or willing and able to quickly become effectively well versed in it. We are looking for people who find studying and teaching mathematics to the next generation self-rewarding, just as studying math is self-rewarding for research mathematicians. We are looking for people interested in applying math as a tool kit to other areas of human knowledge, from physics to computer science to economics and finance to history and literature, in close cooperation with students, other teachers, and faculty members of the UCLA Department of Mathematics.

We are looking for people who believe that solid mathematics education is beneficial for every student and who are able and willing to work with the students of varying math backgrounds. Job Duties: Consistent with the Mathematics Department leadership's direction, collaborate with other educators in creation of a Geffen Academy program that meets the needs and interests of the Geffen Academy's students. The candidate will work with Investigators in the UCLA Magnetic Resonance Research Laboratories (MRRL), the UCLA-VA Division of Cardiology, and the UCLA Diagnostic Cardiovascular Imaging Section of Radiology. Projects include: 1) developing and applying advanced cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging methods to detect and quantify indices of cardiovascular disease in human patients and animal models and 2) image-based computational modeling of the cardiovascular system.

The projects are in the areas of ischemic-reperfusion /hemorrhagic myocardial infarction and heart failure, ischemic microvascular heart disease, and congenital heart disease. A Ph. D. M.

D. or M. D. /Ph. D. is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and in a team environment are expected. Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Ph. D. candidates should hold a degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Material Science, Physiology, or a closely related field. Desired skills include experience in MRI, Siemens IDEA and ICE programming, image reconstruction and processing, and cardiovascular disease research. The candidate is expected to be proficient in MATLAB, C++, Python. Experience in computational modeling of the cardiovascular system
