Operates with specific knowledge of lithography and training in ink and water balance, ink density, chemistries, emulsification, coatings, four color process concepts and PMS color densities while making decisions regarding which order colors and tacks of ink should be placed for best printability and quality. Primary Job Responsibilities: · Accurately reports and records daily production and scrap.
· Achieves make-ready and run times per establish rates.
· Checks regularly to ensure the continued accurate registration, color consistency and quality printing on both sides of the stock using the console for controlling these procedures. · Communicates with Supervisor and/or MFG Facilitator to address any work area concerns. · Follows all Safety and Quality protocols and adheres to ISO 9001; 14001, 6S standards and Lean processes. · Lifts up to 45-pounds frequently while loading paper into press. Team lift at higher weights. · Maintains an effective working relationship and communication with fellow employees, including temporary associates, by adhering to BIC Graphic’s policies in all activities and through promoting BIC Graphic’s Values and Respect in the Workplace.
· Makes adjustments to the press to compensate for changes in sheet sizes and weights. · Performs operator-level maintenance duties on all equipment (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly) and maintains documentation of maintenance. · Positions printed copy on both sides of stock in the proper position to ensure appropriate registration. · Reach, bend, twist, push, pull, grasp and stand for extended periods of time as well as move about the facility as needed for the position.
· Reads and follows all Manufacturing Order (MOs) or Job Traveler (JT) directions. · Reports time accurately. · Responsibility for controlling consistency of ink densities and matching PMS colors while operating press. · Responsible for proper preventive maintenance and documentation of these duties. Items included are lubricating the machine and maintaining a clean work area Reviews routing to ensure familiarity with production requirements prior to starting press run. · Sets up machine and operates it according to Work Instructions and operator manual. Identifies when mechanical problems occur.
· Supports teamwork and process improvements through active participation in meetings and helping team ideas work. · Visually inspects product to complete required quality checks · Will train Apprentice Press Operator to effectively operate the press. · Works rotating shifts and overtime as scheduled and/or required to meet business timelines. Additional Responsibilities: · To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably expected. · Wraps, bands, tags and/or moves skids of product. · Convey essential information to the following shift so delays are minimized. Make sure plates, paper, ink and all needed information is available for the next shift.
· Runs sufficient Make-Ready sheets to obtain a favorable color match with in-house standards, while minimizing Make-Ready time and waste. Qualifications: Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent; Technical/Trade School preferred.
