Assist in the processing of applications submitted for permits pursuant to Chapter 161, F. S. for construction in the coastal area of the state. The position provides engineering assistance to and coordinates with the other sections and program areas of the Division in pursuit of the overall mission to preserve, restore and protect the beaches and coastal systems of Florida.

Plans and conducts engineering reviews of consultations and applications for construction control line permits. Reviews and analyzes site development, landscaping, and grading plans and specifications for property development, and makes recommendations in accordance with the accepted environmental protection principles and with the agency's rules, regulations, and policy. Ensures appropriate follow-up on permit compliance issues. Assists the agency and local governments in the implementation of contingency plans for handling shoreline emergencies and assists local government officials in implementing emergency measures for shoreline protection.

Providing technical assistance to other sections of the Office of Resilience and Coastal Protection and the Department on coastal and environmental issues. The incumbent of this position has been identified as emergency Mission Essential Personnel in accordance with Directive 971 and, in that capacity, may be required, on short notice, to perform duties and travel in support of emergency efforts.

All leave approved is subject to recall in the occurrence of a major event. Leave should be coordinated with backup/cross-trained staff and approved by management to ensure that DEP essential functions can be performed, if required. This position may be placed on-call to remain available to perform essential duties. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of basic biological and ecological principles, site development and environmental regulatory practices.
